Welcome to Dunbeag
here at Dunbeag, in the village of Tighnabruaich we are learning how to make the best use of the conifer species which were underplanted in the native oaks over 40 years ago. Sitka spruce, european larch, noble and grand firs are all present as well as the invasive rhododendron ponticum. My interest has focused primarily on using the differing qualities of these types of timber for building and construction and in Eco-School groundworks.

The gardens, buildings and orchards are all designed around permaculture principles and these are still evolving and changing. Dunbeag is an ongoing and developing agro-forestry system that could be used as a truly replicable model for woodland crofting.

Although we live in a northerly range and benefit from a very soft micro-climate, this very small part of the world is able to support us throughout the year.

Here we learn how to live lightly and happily with our friends, neighbours, wildlife and community.

We welcome you to explore a little of our lives and aim to give people much to think about.
