I guess the most famous guy to try AD with forest waste is Jean Pain; there is an old Reader’s Digest article posted here that gives a brief introduction. However, how it all worked is a bit of a mystery. His approach seems very non-technical so probably not reproducible except by trial and error.

A much more technical treatment of the subject can be found here. This looks like it might be a useful resource, However, the material used in the Digesters was much more promising than forest waste. The problem with our material, which is mostly softwood that has been put through a chipper shredder, is that it's not ideal... but at least we have a LOT of it!
